Why Zigzag?

ZigZag is my nickname which later became my middle name. (No, my parents were not hippies and I’m not named after the rolling papers.)  The nickname stuck ten years ago due to being an “extrovert that is tenaciously reclusive.” I zig and I zag. I’m quiet and I’m ferociously talkative. I’m logical and I’m creative.

A few years later I discovered the term’ zigzag thinking,’ which is used in modern marketing firms. It is also called lateral thinking. The purpose of zigzag thinking is to produce good brainstorming and ideation to create as many new ideas as possible. It is the brainchild of creative thinking, which focuses on what could be instead of what is.

This is how I operate. I like to use both left and right sides of my brain to explore the creative and the logical.

Do you have many ideas that bounce around in your head? This “bouncing around” can be a great asset to the future success of you or your company.  Practicing this kind of creative thinking is crucial in an age where idea generation is key to our survival. It is an essential element to anyone’s personal development. The bottom line is to explore new ideas and follow through with the exploration.

In vertical thinking, you progress by sequential justified steps, each step arising directly for the previous step. In lateral thinking you proceed by any means at hand, so long as new ideas and significant change is the result. This kind of thinking is what I strive to help my clients learn, as well as what I do best in my writing and with coaching clients. Give me a call and we can zig-zag together.
